World 800m champion Lilian Odira has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant in the Kenya Prisons Service following her stellar performance at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
Odira received the promotion from the Director General of Prisons, Patrick M. Aranduh, who hailed her resilience, discipline, and outstanding contribution to both the country and the service.
The star athlete stunned the world after powering to victory in the women’s 800m final, defeating Olympic champions to clinch gold and bring glory to Kenya.
Her elevation reflects the Prisons Service’s tradition of recognizing and rewarding officers who excel on the global stage, both in service and in sport.
