President William Ruto today hosted Team Kenya’s Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships medal winners for a celebratory breakfast at State House, Nairobi.
The Head of State lauded the athletes for their sterling performance on the global stage, where Kenya secured 7 Gold, 2 Silver, and 2 Bronze medals, finishing second overall in the world and first in Africa.

“Kenyan athletes carried our flag with pride and brought immense honour to the nation. They have proven to the world that Kenya does not merely participate in the league of nations; we play in the league of champions,” President Ruto said.
He emphasized that the team’s remarkable achievement was not just a sporting victory but a statement of Kenya’s unique spirit and resilience.
“Emerging second globally is testimony that Kenya is not made for average. Our nation’s DNA is not ordinary but extraordinary, not mediocrity but excellence,” he added.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in sports development:
“We commit ourselves, as a country, to harness our talents fully, nurture them with integrity, and raise the standards of our sports to even greater heights.”
