Athletics Youth Director Barnabas Korir proudly received the final batch of Kenya’s heroes and heroines from the just-concluded World Championships in Tokyo at JKIA.
Among those returning were shining stars who carried Kenya’s flag high: Beatrice Chebet, double gold medalist in the 10,000m and 5,000m; Faith Kipyegon, gold medalist in the 1500m and silver in the 5,000m; Lilian Odira, who stunned the world with her 800m gold; and Emmanuel Wanyonyi, the only male gold medalist in the 800m.
“Today, we celebrate all our Tokyo athletes and officials for their resilience, hard work, and victories. You have inspired a new generation of champions,” said Korir.
Looking ahead, preparations begin immediately for the Africa Games, the inaugural Ultimate Championships, the World Cross Country Championships, and the road to the Los Angeles Olympics. The focus will be on investing in youth talent, strengthening grassroots development, and improving training facilities to sustain and build on this momentum.
“As Chairman of the Youth Committee, I remain fully committed to ensuring our young and upcoming athletes are prepared, supported, and inspired to follow in these footsteps of greatness,” Korir affirmed.
