Kenya’s Faith Cherotich announced her arrival on the global stage in stunning fashion, storming to victory in the women’s 3000m steeplechase final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
The 19-year-old produced a masterful performance, fending off a fierce challenge from Olympic champion Winfred Yavi of Bahrain to secure her maiden world title.
Cherotich crossed the line in 8:51.54, a lifetime best, with Yavi forced to settle for silver in 8:56.46. Ethiopia’s Sembo Almayew claimed bronze after clocking 8:58.86.
The victory cements Cherotich’s status as one of Kenya’s brightest young stars and continues the nation’s proud tradition in the steeplechase.
