Faith Cherotich Clinches First World Title in Tokyo Steeplechase

 


Kenya’s Faith Cherotich announced her arrival on the global stage in stunning fashion, storming to victory in the women’s 3000m steeplechase final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.


The 19-year-old produced a masterful performance, fending off a fierce challenge from Olympic champion Winfred Yavi of Bahrain to secure her maiden world title.


Cherotich crossed the line in 8:51.54, a lifetime best, with Yavi forced to settle for silver in 8:56.46. Ethiopia’s Sembo Almayew claimed bronze after clocking 8:58.86.




The victory cements Cherotich’s status as one of Kenya’s brightest young stars and continues the nation’s proud tradition in the steeplechase.
