Legendary Kipchoge keino family have plan underway to set up a multi –million sports complex in the soon to be Eldoret City.
This was revealed during Business stakeholder meeting at Noble Hotel by Keino sports holding ,CEO Martin Keino said that plans are underway for ground breaking of a multi million sports complex that will be set up on a 75 acre piece of land are at advanced level.
Keino said working on the project will begin early next year and millions is expected to be used in the construction works.
"We as a family are planning to construct a sports complex center which will be an extension of the Kipkeino High Altitude Training Center " Said Keino.
He added that there is a lot of talent and we feel we need bigger facilities for the sports people around the region.
The complex will be located just outside Eldoret town along Eldoret- Nakuru highway within farmland owned by Kipchoge Keino ,the center is listed as high performance training center by International Olympic Committee.(IOC)
The Training center focuses on developing Middle and long distance athletes.
The state of the art complex will comprise of all sporting facilities among them basketball courts, Volleyball and hockey fields as well as football and Athletics, indoor arena and accommodation facilities.
"We are targeting all sports and top athletes from different disciplines to come and train at the facility as well as those who will want to play for recreational. " Added Keino.
After its completion the facility is expected to host school games ,local and international events.
The construction works are expected to be done within three to five years.
"We are looking to break the ground beginning of 2024 for now we are finalising the cost given." Said Keino.
However, Keino said that their plan is to have a world class international sporting facility capitalizing on Eldoret becoming a city thus improving on sports tourism in the region.
He further said the complex will offer accommodation services to sports men and women at subsidised cost especially for those that will need to use the facility for longer period.
