| Janet Chepng’etich cut the tape to win the race in Kapsabet. |
Kelvin kibiwot and Janet Chepngetich were the winners at the 14th edition of Mozzart Nandi Re-descover 10km road race for both men and women respectively in Kapsabet,Nandi County.
The theme of the race was efforts to support green economy and enhance resilience to climate risks through green energy, health,habitat, forestry and water and its effect to climate change.
Kibiwott crossed the line in 29.53.6, ahead of James Kipkoech who was timed 30.09.91, while Shadrack kipchirchir was placed third clocking 30.22.43,
Kibiwot said that he is excited to have won the race
" I'm happy to win the race though the course was hard but am glad I managed to win" Said 5th finisher at Prague half marathon.
Kibiwot who has a personal best in 10k of 27.29 said he will be waiting for his management to tell him where he will compete next .
Kibiwot who trains in iten is optimistic to perform inn the future races.
Chepngetich emerged the winner at the women category crossing the line 34.20.98 ahead of Beatrice Cheserek cutting the tape 34.21.16 followed in third by Marion Kibor clocking 34.52.3 to close the podium finish.
Chepngetich said this was a surprise win for her .
"The course was hard ,with hilly places but I was able to lead and won ,am just thankful to God." Said Chepng’etich 10,000m 4th finisher during world championships trials missed to cut a slot to represent the country at Budapest, Hungary in August.
Kiringet based athlete Chepngetich said she is used the race as preparation for 10k to be held in Prague .
" I used the race as part of my training ahead of 10k which will be taking place in Prague in September. " Said Chepng’etich.
The race started at Kapsssur ,Nandi forest and ended at Namgoi primary school in Kapsabet Town.
