Ruth Chepngetich and Emmanuel Wanyonyi will be the star attraction at the fourth edition of https://www.sirikwaclassic.com/ Cross country continental tour to be held on Saturday February 22nd at Lobo village Kapseret, Eldoret city.
The event promises
a spectacle, with organizers confirming a strong roster of the world’s top
runners competing for honors in Eldoret city.
The outcome will
be key to helping athletes build profiles for more upcoming competitions.
According to the
provisional list, Chepngetich will battle out in 10k senior women with New York
marathon winner Sheila Chepkurui and reigning national cross-country champion
Brilliant Jepkorir.
Chepngetich is the
world record holder in the marathon and the first woman in the history to break
the 2.10 barrier in 2024 Chicago marathon clocking 2.09.56.
Reigning Olympic
800m champion Wanyonyi will be chasing for another title in 2km loop after
winning the national title recently.
Wanyonyi produced a
good performance in 2024 with exploits at the National Olympic trials. With an
impressive 1:41.70 to cross the finish line, as young Turk in 800m.
Speaking at Hot 96
fm breakfast show with Jeff Kionage and Patrick Igunza, Barnabas Korir said Close
to 20 foreign athletes are among 947 Kenyan competitors, with Uganda’s Loice
Chekwemoi, who won last year’s Chepsaita cross country among the notable names.
The fourth edition
of the Sirikwa classic cross-country organizers will be providing the highest
prize money structure for athletes competing in the 2025 edition.
The organizers
announced that the top 15 runners would be awarded with the winners walking
away with $6000 (Ksh 780,000) with the under-20 athletes who win the race being
awarded $1250 (Ksh 162,500).
