Chepchumba tops in the first day of AK track and field in Mumias complex

 


In a well attended Athletics Kenya track and field meeting held at Mumias complex stadium, athletes got a chance to test their endurance as they begin the busy 2025 season aiming World athletics championships set for Tokyo, Japan in September.

Naumglorious Chepchumba elected to compete in 1500m and 800m still emerged top. The Kenya police athlete clocked 4.28.1 to finish ahead of Vivian Cherotich 4.28.6 who was timed 4.30.4 completed the podium finishes

“I opted to compete in 1500m since this is the first race and I am still focusing on my training. I will compete in 800m this season with my target being to compete at the World Championships and hoping to compete in the second weekend meet”. Said Chepchumba

The entries from disciplined forces, the athletes showed that they had their priorities right for the season.

In the first day of event, the sprints attracted the highest number of competitors with the mens 400m fielding 80 athletes in round 1.

In the men 5000m Eldoret based runner Festus Kiprop led in heat one 14.1.08 as Kibet Ndiwa was placed second 14.6.4 followed in third Anthony Kibet timed 14.10.3 in the second heat final Shadrack keter timed 14.12.7 ahead of Simon Pulow 14.15.2 while was third Sila Kipkemboi clocking 14.16.8.
